Despite the fact that around 90% of all cyber attacks target passwords, multi-factor authentication (MFA) – a proven countermeasure – is used by less than 5% of users of their own free will. The biggest hurdle is the user experience: the constant need to enter a second authentication factor is perceived as cumbersome, time-consuming and a productivity inhibitor. Each login process requires the entry of a username, password and a second factor, often on a separate device, which often leads to delays. On average, employees spend around 25 hours per year on the multi-authentication process.

The sorbay_RISK SCORE – Risk Score Service is an advanced, cloud-based approach to risk detection based on intelligent machine learning analyses. This service enables dynamic and context-dependent authentication (risk-based authentication) that adapts to the individual behavior of each user. With sorbay_RISK SCORE, a login service can dynamically select the optimal authentication mechanism. The login service used, such as the USP SES Identity® or Keycloak, can take different measures based on this evaluation.
sorbay_RISK SCORE calculates the probability of whether the user is actually the specified user. The implementation of sorbay_RISK SCORE ensures secure, simple and optimized digital interaction, which leads to an improved user experience and loyalty.
Scenario
sorbay_RISK SCORE recognizes that Ms. Meier is in the office, it is 11:25 a.m. and she is in Europe – in Switzerland, to be precise. She is using the usual device and the same IP address as always. Based on these and other factors, a tailored risk score is calculated, which determines the probability that it is Ms. Meier. Conversely, it rules out an attack or fraud. The lower the risk score, the easier it is for Ms. Meier to authenticate herself. This means that Ms. Meier is not explicitly asked for a second factor based on these factors – everything is automatic and secure.
